Fourth Sunday of Advent—22nd December 2019 (YEAR A)

Over the last three Sundays, we’ve been hearing about John the Baptist and on the part he played in preparing the way for the coming of Jesus. Today, on this last Sunday of Advent, a few days before Christmas, our attention is drawn to the person of Joseph. Just as in the case of John the Baptist, we hear about Joseph not for his own sake, but for the part he played in the birth of Jesus. We always need to keep in mind that when we hear the Gospels, their intention is not to give us facts about different characters, but to draw our hearts to faith, love and commitment to the person of Jesus. Today’s Gospel is no different.
